You can search for available domain names using our domain search and registration tool on our homepage at https://domainkeskus.com/en/. If you cannot find information about a specific specialty extension or a rarer country code, please contact our customer service, and we will check the availability and price for you.

Domain names are always registered for a specific period. The minimum registration period is usually one year (e.g., .fi, .com, .net). For certain extensions, the minimum period may be two years or longer (e.g., .nu, .mobi). The maximum registration period is commonly five years (e.g., .fi) or ten years (e.g., .com, .net). There are currently hundreds of different domain extensions available, and new extensions (e.g., .live, .io, .store, etc.) are constantly being introduced to the market. The prices and registration rules for these "specialty extensions" and country code extensions may vary significantly. If you have any questions, feel free to contact our customer service for more information.

Normally, you can renew a domain name or extend the registration period within the maximum timeframe while the domain is valid and during any grace period. You can renew or extend the registration period through your Domainkeskus customer account. If the registration is not renewed independently, Domainkeskus will send you a reminder email as the registration period approaches its end and an invoice for renewal according to your chosen billing method. Please ensure that your contact information is up to date and that the renewal fee is paid well in advance of the registration's expiration (consider bank processing times).

When the registration period of a domain name expires, the domain will no longer function. Usually, it is still possible to renew the domain during a grace period after the expiration. The grace period is typically around one month but may vary depending on the extension. Additional fees may apply for renewing a registration after its expiration for some extensions. After the grace period, the domain will be released and available for anyone to register. Therefore, make sure to renew your domain in a timely manner.

Regarding .fi domain names, the registration and renewal policy changed on September 5, 2016. The most significant change was that every .fi domain requires a domain registrar. It is no longer possible to register or renew .fi domains directly through Viestintävirasto (Finnish Communications Regulatory Authority). Domainkeskus is an approved domain registrar by Viestintävirasto, and all .fi domains registered through us are automatically linked to our registrar account. If you registered domain names directly through Viestintävirasto or another party before September 5, 2016, please make sure that your domain has a domain registrar assigned. Without a domain registrar, it is not possible to renew the domain.
