Through the WP Toolkit, it is possible to clone a WordPress installation, for example, to a subdomain. This is useful when you want to create a copy of your WordPress installation for testing or making changes without affecting the main website.

Cloning is also helpful in the opposite situation where you have built a website on a test subdomain like test.domain.com, and now you want to use it on your main domain, domain.com.

Cloning

You can start the cloning process by clicking the "Clone" button in the Dashboard section.

Source = Location of the WordPress installation to be cloned. You can verify it by clicking "Show Path" to ensure the correct installation is cloned.

Target = Location where the WP installation will be cloned. You can either create a new subdomain for the clone or select "Use Existing Domain or Subdomain" to clone the installation to the main domain, transitioning it from the test environment. Leave the clone path section empty to copy the installation to the root (httpdocs).

The functionality of a subdomain may require DNS configuration. If your domain's DNS management is under our control, you can contact us to make the necessary DNS changes. Let us know the subdomain you intend to create (e.g., staging.domain.com or test.domain.com), and we will add the DNS configuration so that you can proceed with the cloning process.

NOTE: WHEN SPECIFYING THE TARGET, PLEASE BE AWARE THAT IF THE SELECTED SUBDOMAIN OR MAIN DOMAIN ALREADY HAS AN EXISTING WEBSITE, THE CLONING PROCESS MAY OVERWRITE OR DAMAGE THE EXISTING FILES.

If the domain/subdomain where the installation is being cloned is currently being used for a website that you plan to disable, it is recommended to remove that website beforehand to avoid conflicts.

Database = You can optionally change the name of the database to be created during the cloning process. This is not necessary.

Once you are satisfied with the configured settings, you can start the cloning process by clicking the "Start" button at the bottom of the page. If anything goes wrong or files get corrupted, please contact customer support. It is possible to restore the Webhotelli account from a backup.
